Oxidative Stress and Cardiometabolic Disorders

Description

Cardiometabolic disorders are a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide and continue to remain a public health challenge. Over the last decade, there has been a dramatic rise in the prevalence of cardiometabolic disorders, not only in industrialized nations but also in the developing countries. This prevalence appears to be increasing due to a parallel rise in the prevalence of obesity, dietary and lifestyle changes, rise in urbanization, and decline in physical exercise. Although significant advances have been made in elucidating the pathogenesis of cardiometabolic disorders, the associated mechanisms together with their attendant complications remain to be unveiled via recent studies with a view to improve therapeutic approaches. Several studies have implicated different mechanisms in the etiopathogenesis of metabolic disorders. There is increasing evidence that links oxidative stress with cardiometabolic disorders. Although the role of oxidative stress in cardiometabolic disorders has been reported, its mechanism is yet to be fully understood. Understanding the roles and associated mechanisms of oxidative stress in cardiometabolic disorders will enhance therapeutic approaches and overall outcome of patients with cardiometabolic disorders.

This special issue invites the submission of original research articles, review articles, and clinical studies on the role and associated mechanisms of oxidative stress in cardiometabolic disorders. Submissions discussing novel concepts related to associated mechanisms and possible new therapeutic horizons are also welcomed.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Etiopathogenesis of cardiometabolic diseases
  • Mechanisms regulating oxidative stress in cardiometabolic disorders
  • The impact of nitric oxide on the heart and vasculature
  • Biomarkers of oxidative stress in the diagnosis and prognosis of cardiometabolic disorders
  • Prooxidant in cardiometabolic disorders
  • Role of antioxidants in cardiometabolic disorders
  • Advances in the management of cardiometabolic disorders
  • The role of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) in the management of cardiometabolic disorders
