Macular Hole: From Diagnosis to Therapy

Description

In recent years, we acquired new elements about etiopathogenesis, histopathological data, classification, and imaging of different subtypes of macular hole as well as important evidences of retinal and epiretinal modification during the evolution of the pathology. At the same time, surgical treatment is evolving, with small gauges and new healing procedures to induce hole closure.

Nowadays, clinical approach to different subtypes, like vitreomacular traction, epiretinal macular membrane involvement, myopic macular hole, and lamellar macular hole represents already a challenge to better comprehend imaging features, correct indication for surgery, and choice of surgery.

The aim of this special Issue is to collect clinical experiences on this pathology from diagnosis and clinical evaluation to surgical approach and follow-up results analysis on macula hole. In particular, original research articles evaluating new clinical and imaging aspect of the pathology are encouraged and are welcomed. At the same time, review manuscripts will be accepted with interest in order to give an overall vision of the state of the art.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Idiopathic macular hole
  • Lamellar macular hole
  • Myopic macular hole
  • Epiretinal ectopic tissue and macular hole
  • The role of OCT and OCT angiography in macular hole
  • Surgical approach to macular hole: from inverted flap to posterior buckling
