During motion detection, subframes within the region of interest are captured (a), blurred (b), and converted to shades of gray (c). In the areas of the subframe indicated by circles, the pixels changing between consecutive captures (d) comprise a direct measurement of motion. Such pixel changes are repeatedly summed and compared with a predefined threshold value. At a given time in a given area, if the threshold value is exceeded, motion is detected.
