Dissemination and Implementation Research: Intersection between Nursing Science and Health Care Delivery

Description

Dissemination is the targeted distribution of information and intervention materials to spread knowledge and evidence-based interventions to a larger audience (NIH, 2011). Implementation is the use of strategies to promote the systematic uptake of evidence-based practices into routine practice and healthcare policy to improve the quality and effectiveness of health services (IOM, 2012). The dissemination and implementation (D&I) lexicon includes many terms like translational research, knowledge translation, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer. Dissemination and implementation researchers and practitioners must carefully consider strategies for translating evidence into practice to optimize health care delivery. D&I science focuses on translating knowledge into practice by facilitating stakeholder access to findings using a variety of strategies and designs that include pragmatic trials, evidence-based quality improvement, health technology assessment, systematic reviews, randomized clinical trials, and comparative effectiveness research. D&I research is a systems issue where collaboration among stakeholders is crucial for maximum effectiveness. Achieving D&I goals should improve patient and system outcomes, including cost.

We invite authors to submit original research, review articles, and clinical application papers that investigate D&I strategies. We encourage submission from all practice areas and health fields. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Theoretical models to further the science of D&I
  • Methodological approaches to facilitate D&I
  • Tools for implementing program reach to target audience including eHealth and mHealth approaches
  • Strategies to involve stakeholders in D&I
  • Health policy issues related to national D&I strategies
  • Innovative approaches for strengthening D&I capacity

Submissions which demonstrate innovative approaches to successfully scale-up to reach target populations and achieve sustainable impact are especially encouraged, as are submissions which address exnovative strategies to eradicate harmful practices from the health care arena.

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/nrp/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/nrp/nsh/ according to the following timetable:
