Oral Health

Description

Oral health is central to overall health and well-being, and increasingly there are data to suggest there are major health disparities in access to oral health care. Some have noted that the “mouth has left the body” over the past several decades. Although people engage with the healthcare system in any number of ways, including visiting a nurse practitioner or an emergency room, most never receive an oral health assessment. While financing and payment for prevention and treatment is a challenge, there is a major opportunity for nurses to engage in creative approaches to oral health and by re-engaging in the oral health assessment and care that has been relegated to others as unimportant work.

We are interested in original research articles as well as review articles that describe creative practices in oral health, evidence of impact and improved outcomes, and suggest important research initiatives that are ongoing or in development. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Development and testing of novel approaches to improving oral health care delivery
  • Development of strategies to provide comprehensive oral health in acute care settings
  • Strategies and ongoing practices for oral health in long-term care facilities
  • Patient-centered strategies for assessment of oral health
  • Interdisciplinary initiatives on oral health
  • Strategies to address oral health in typically underserved populations, such as rural communities and persons with developmental disabilities

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/nrp/guidelines/.
