Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging artifacts can hinder accurate diagnosis of several conditions. The aim of this study was to quantify CBCT artifacts created by nonmetallic root canal filling materials using two fields of view (FOV). whereas white streak artifacts were produced by gutta-percha in the coronal third and glass-fiber posts in the coronal and middle thirds when imaged with a wider FOV. A smaller FOV is therefore recommended for CBCT imaging, as it produces fewer artifacts.

Quantitative Analysis of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography Artifacts Induced by Nonmetallic Root Canal Filling Materials Using Different Fields of View: <i>In Vitro</i> Study

A new type of square concrete-filled steel tubular (SCFST) column is proposed, which is characterized by transverse stiffened bars inside the steel tube to improve the effective constraint performance of the concrete core. The experiment of this kind of composite material under axial compression was carried out. The results showed that the bearing capacity of the SCFST column reinforced by internal transverse stiffened bars increased by 4.5&#x0025;-15&#x0025; than that of the ordinary SCFST column. The transverse strain is smaller than the SCFST column. As the diameter of the reinforcement increases and decreases the spacing of bars, the axial load bearing capacity increased. The transverse strain of the member decreased obviously. It is noted that the confinement performance of the concrete core of this type was improved to some extent. At the same time, based on the unified theory, the simplified calculation formula of axial compression bearing capacity is derived.

Bearing Strength of Concrete-Filled Steel Tube Reinforced with Internal Transverse Stiffened Bars under Axial Compression

An important factor affecting the accuracy of Young&#x2019;s modulus calculation in Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) indentation experiments is the determination of the dimensions of the indenter. This procedure is usually performed using AFM calibration gratings or Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) imaging. However, the aforementioned procedure is frequently omitted because it requires additional equipment. In this paper, a new approach is presented that focused on the calibration of spherical indenters without the need of special equipment but instead using force indentation data on soft samples. Firstly, the question whether it is mathematically possible to simultaneously calculate the indenter&#x2019;s radius and the Young&#x2019;s modulus of the tested sample (under the restriction that the sample presents a linear elastic response) using the same force indentation data is discussed. Using a simple mathematical approach, it was proved that the aforementioned procedure is theoretically valid. In addition, to test this method in real indentation experiments agarose gels were used. Multiple measurements on different agarose gels showed that the calibration of a spherical indenter is possible and can be accurately performed. Thus, the indenter&#x2019;s radius and the soft sample&#x2019;s Young&#x2019;s modulus can be determined using the same force indentation data. It is also important to note that the provided accuracy is similar to the accuracy obtained when using AFM calibration gratings. The major advantage of this paper is that it provides a method for the simultaneous determination of the indenter&#x2019;s radius and the sample&#x2019;s Young&#x2019;s modulus without requiring any additional equipment.

Erratum to &#x201C;Prevalence and Morphology of C-Shaped Canals: A CBCT Analysis in a Korean Population&#x201D;

This study investigated the retreatability of EndoSeal MTA (Maruch, Wonju, Korea) according to the presence or absence of a canal isthmus and the additional use of passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) through microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) imaging. An epoxy resin sealer (AH Plus (Dentsply DeTrey, Konstanz, Germany)) was used as a reference for comparison. In apical lesions in the EndoSeal MTA group, the void ratio was significantly lower, and there was a significantly higher amount of remaining filling material. Regardless of the presence of an isthmus, the amount of remaining filling material of the EndoSeal + PUI group was reduced to a similar degree as the AH plus group. When performing retreatment for root canals filled with EndoSeal MTA, removal of the filling material can be more difficult in the apical region. The additional use of PUI can improve the efficacy of removal.

The Retrievability of Calcium Silicate-Based Sealer during Retreatment and the Effectiveness of Additional Passive Ultrasonic Irrigation: A Microcomputed Tomographic Study

The heavy casualties associated with mass disasters necessitate substantial resources to be managed. The unexpectedly violent nature of such occurrences usually remains a problematic amount of victims that urgently require to be identified by a reliable and economical method. Conventional identification methods are inefficient in many cases such as plane crashes and fire accidents that have damaged the macrobiometric features such as fingerprints or faces. An appropriate recognition method for such cases should use features more resistant to destruction. Forensic dentistry provides the most appropriate available method for the successful identification of victims using careful techniques and precise data interpretation. Since bones and teeth are the most persistent parts of the demolished bodies in sudden mass disasters, scanning and radiographs are unrepeatable parts of forensic dentistry. Forensic dentistry as a scientific method of human remain identification has been considerably referred to be efficient in disasters. Forensic dentistry can be used for either &#x201C;sex and age estimation,&#x201D; &#x201C;Medical biotechnology techniques,&#x201D; or &#x201C;identification with dental records,&#x201D; etc. The present review is aimed at discussing the development and implementation of forensic dentistry methods for human identification. For this object, the literature from the last decade has been searched for the innovations in forensic dentistry for human identification based on the PubMed database.

Dental Radiographic/Digital Radiography Technology along with Biological Agents in Human Identification

Phase equilibria of the Fe-Al-Ni-O system at 750&#x00B0;C were determined by scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer and X-ray power diffraction. 54 alloys were prepared with weighted metal and Ni<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> powder and were annealed at 750&#x00B0;C for 45 days. Two four-phase equilibrium regions and three three-phase equilibrium regions were confirmed, and the boundary between spinel and corundum was obtained. Comparing with the Fe-Al-Ni-O oxidation diagram at 750&#x00B0;C calculated with FSstel and FToxid databases, the phase boundary of the spinel and corundum oxides from experiments was inclined to the Ni-Al side. The determined relationship between primary oxides and alloy composition in this work can be used as a reference for the preparation of the oxide film by selective oxidation.

Study on the Phase Equilibria of the Fe-Al-Ni-O System at 750&#x00B0;C

Powder-based additive manufacturing (PAM) is a potential fabrication approach in advancing state-of-the-art research to produce intricate components with high precision and accuracy in near-net form. In PAM, the raw materials are used in powder form, deposited on the surface layer by layer, and fused to produce the final product. PAM composite fabrication for biomedical implants, aircraft structure panels, and automotive brake rotary components is gaining popularity. In PAM composite fabrication, the aluminium cast alloy is widely preferred as a metal matrix for its unique properties, and different reinforcements are employed in the form of oxides, carbides, and nitrides. However, for enhancing the mechanical properties, the carbide form is predominantly considered. This comprehensive study focuses on contemporary research and reveals the effect of metal carbide&#x2019;s (MCs) addition to the aluminium matrix processed through various PAM processes, challenges involved, and potential scopes to advance the research.

Processing of Aluminium-Silicon Alloy with Metal Carbide as Reinforcement through Powder-Based Additive Manufacturing: A Critical Study

In order to solve the problem of waste heat collection from energy consumption, a thermal energy generation device combining shape memory alloy and piezoelectric materials has been designed. The shape memory alloy is heated and deformed to drive the drive wheel continuously, and the impact wheel is deformed against the piezoelectric cantilever beam during the rotation of the drive wheel to generate electricity. In this paper, the impact force generated by the impact wheel and the output voltage of the piezoelectric cantilever beam during the rotation process are given. Finally, the experimental test shows that the larger the radius of the drive wheel, the lower the impact force of the wheel and the lower the output voltage of the piezoelectric cantilever beam; the larger the diameter of the shape memory alloy wire, the higher the impact force of the wheel and the higher the output voltage of the piezoelectric cantilever beam; the more teeth of the drive wheel, the higher the impact frequency of the piezoelectric cantilever beam and the higher the output voltage. The maximum output voltage of the thermoelectric converter is 14.2&#x2009;V, when the drive wheel radius is 13&#x2009;mm, the shape memory alloy wire diameter is 1&#x2009;mm and the number of impact wheel teeth is 6. The new structural design provides a new structural model for waste heat recovery and thermal energy generation technology.
