Security and Privacy for Smart Cyber-Physical Systems

Description

A cyber-physical system (CPS) is a collection of interconnected computing devices interacting with the physical world with its users. New smart CPS applications are expected to bring advances in electricity generation and delivery, emergency response, traffic management, and personalized healthcare, as well as many prospective areas being envisioned at the moment. In addition, smart CPS can function as the foundation for Internet of Things (IoT), smart grid, smart cities, smart homes, smart transportation, and "smart" anything (e.g., buildings and appliances). Smart CPS will greatly enhance usability, scalability, capability, and adaptability that will be much better than traditional systems. While smart CPS can transform how we interact with the physical world, each specific system requires different levels of security based on the sensitivity of the control system and the information it carries. Smart CPS is still vulnerable to security threats and privacy breach that stem from current computer and communication technologies and protocols.

The goal of this special issue is to solicit high-quality research articles addressing key challenges and the state-of-the-art solutions on the security and privacy issues of current and emerging smart CPS such as smart grid, smart cities, smart homes, smart transportation, smart healthcare, and smart “anything.” Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscripts for possible publications in this special issue. Original research as well as high-quality review articles are all welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Cryptographic protocols and algorithms for Smart CPS
  • Cryptographic engineering for CPS or IoT devices
  • Data integrity, authentication, and access control for Smart CPS
  • Security in smart grids/smart homes/smart cities/smart transportation
  • Security threat detection theories and technologies
  • Cloud based secure Smart CPS
  • Privacy issues in smart grids/smart homes/smart cities/smart transportations
