Vibration of Offshore Structures under Coastal Environmental Loads

Description

As the ocean is explored and the global economy develops, increasing numbers of offshore structures are being constructed, such as wharfs, bridges, wind turbines, and oil platforms, among others. These offshore structures are threatened by complex coastal environment loads, such as wind, waves, currents, and earthquakes. Unexpected high storm surges, huge waves, and strong currents and winds may cause catastrophic damage to offshore structures, and many lessons have been learnt from these disasters.

In recent years, the vibration of offshore structures induced by coastal environmental loads has attracted much attention. To ensure the safety of offshore structures, the properties and mechanisms of coastal environmental loadings and the corresponding structural behavior must be well analyzed and adequately comprehended. Numerical modeling is able to produce reliable predictions of structural responses, and so to ensure precision, simulations of soil-structure interaction, fluid-structure interaction, and ground motion in coastal environments are crucial. In addition, optimized designs and various control strategies are needed to ensure the reliability and safe operation of offshore structures.

This Special Issue aims to bring together researchers working on the vibration of offshore structures under coastal environmental loads. Original research and review articles are welcome, including theoretical studies, experimental studies, and numerical studies.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Offshore design and construction techniques
  • Provisions, specifications, codes, and regulations
  • Fluid-structure interaction
  • Soil-structure interaction
  • Loading mechanisms
  • Structural dynamics of offshore structures
  • Seismic damage evolution and mechanisms of offshore structures
  • Simulation of ground motion in coastal environment
  • Vibration control and seismic isolation for offshore structures
  • Dynamic tests for offshore structures
