Sustainable Composites

Description

The current world demands research advances in science and technology of sustainable composite materials. Engineers and scientists have recently begun to realize the potential of composite materials for various problems associated with the sustainability issues. This special issue will include papers regarding areas that incorporate advanced composite materials for sustainable structural and nonstructural applications. The ways to reduce the environmental impact associated with these materials and structural and nonstructural elements will be included. The methods of motivating and educating engineers and designers in selecting appropriate composite materials in the design and manufacturing will also be explored. This issue will include examples and experiences of sustainable composites manufacturing, their material optimization, application-specific design, and cutting-edge methods for their applications.

The objective of this special issue is to invite contributions from researchers and academicians from industries and research establishments in the area dealing with environmentally friendly and sustainable composite materials for various potential applications. Main topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Recent progress in green and sustainable composites
  • Usual and alternative sources of the composite constituents
  • Application-specific design of the composites
  • Engineered fabrication or manufacturing of the composites
  • Characterization and material/property optimization of the composites
  • Applications of green and sustainable composites in infrastructure industry
  • Environmental footprint and life cycle assessment of the composites
