Recent Advances in the Manufacturing of Polymeric Composites
Description
Polymeric composites are an important category of advanced composite materials being widely utilized in a broad spectrum of industries. This can be evidenced by their critical impacts on material distribution in the modern industrial fields. This type of material shows superior mechanical/physical properties and excellent structural functionalities.
Despite their widespread industrial applications, the manufacturing of polymeric composites is of critical importance as the processing must obtain precise dimensions and superior properties as well as high quality. The manufacture of polymeric composites involves issues such as the design of the processing operations, the optimization of the machining parameters, the minimization of the manufacturing damage, the quantification of accuracy and quality, the monitoring of manufacturing outputs, as well as the control of tool wear and failure.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for discussing the recent research challenges and achievements in the manufacturing of polymeric composites, including both experimental and numerical investigations. Its significance lies in reporting the newest studies in various fabrication and manufacturing processes for polymeric composites covering various processing methods, including but not limited to nano/micro-manufacturing, conventional machining, additive manufacturing, and non-conventional manufacturing. Original research and review articles are welcome.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Out-of-autoclave, automated tape placement, and automated fiber placement for polymeric composites
- Chip removal mechanisms of polymeric composites
- Machinability characterization and evaluation of polymeric composites
- Nano/micro-manufacturing of polymeric composites
