Orest Hurko

Orest Hurko is a board certified neurologist and clinical geneticist with twelve years of experience in translational medicine in four major pharmaceutical companies: SmithKline Beecham, GlaxoSmithKline, Wyeth, and Pfizer. He is the Founding Director of the Translational Medicine Research Collaboration with the medical universities in Scotland (Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow), the National Health Service, and Scottish Enterprise. Before joining industry, Hurko worked with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Md, USA, in neurology, medicine, pediatrics, and neurological surgery. After graduating from Harvard College, Cambridge, Mass, USA, in biochemistry, he studied at MIT, Cambridge, Mass, USA, and graduated from the Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass, USA, before joining the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics at the NIH. He is coauthor of over 200 publications, including Mendelian Inheritance in Man (12th Edition) and The Primary Care Physician's Guide to Common Psychiatric and Neurologic Problems, both of Johns Hopkins University Press.
