Manuel C. Vallejo

Manuel C. Vallejo, a holder of M.D. and DMD degrees, is a Professor of anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa, USA, with appointments in the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and School of Dental Medicine. He is both the Director of Obstetric Anesthesia and the Director of the Obstetric Anesthesia Fellowship Program at Magee-Womens Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In addition, he is the Medical Director of the University of Pittsburgh Dental Anesthesia Program and Clinical Coordinator for the Nurse Anesthesia Program. Dr. Vallejo is a Member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) where he is currently the Chair of the SOAP Education Committee. He is also the Editor-in Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia Digest. Dr. Vallejo is a Contributing Member of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Admissions Committee and is the Recipient of several honors and awards, including the Excellence in Clinical Instruction Teaching Award presented by the Department of Anesthesiology, University of Pittsburgh and the Stephen C. Finestone Clinical Instructor of the Year Teaching Award presented by the Nurse Anesthesia Program, University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. Dr. Vallejo’s specific areas of expertise in the specialty of obstetric anesthesia are labor analgesia, labor epidural/ultrasound, maternal obesity, and nitrous-oxide analgesia.
