Jacek Bania

Jacek Bania obtained the Ph.D. degree in biotechnology in 1997. He is an Associate Professor and the Head of the Department of Food Hygiene and Consumer Health Protection, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences, Wroclaw, Poland. From 2000 to 2003, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Centre d’Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy, Marseille, France. His current research activities include the characterization of virulence factors, genotypes, and antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative staphylococcal species from food and other sources, the investigation of the expression of staphylococcal enterotoxins, the determination of the effect of environmental stress on Listeria monocytogenes virulence, the DNA-based species identification in complex microbial communities, and the development of DNA-based methods to determine food authenticity.
