Fabio Monzani received his M.D. degree from the University of Pisa Medical School, Italy, in 1977, and a degree in endocrinology and metabolism from the University of Pisa, School of Medicine, Italy, in 1980. From 1980 to 2000, he was a Researcher at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, University of Pisa. He has been a Professor at postgraduate Schools of Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Gerontology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Environmental and Working Health, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Nephrology, Pneumology, Clinical Pathology, and Thermal Medicine, University of Pisa (since 1991); a Professor of internal medicine, School of Medicine, University of Pisa (since 2001); a Professor at the Ph.D. School Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology, University of Pisa, and a Member of the Scientific Board of the Ph.D. School Biomedical Technology in Internal Medicine, University of Rome “La Sapienza” (since 2007); the Deputy President of the Educational Board, School of Medicine, University of Pisa (since 2007); the Director of postgraduate School of Geriatrics, University of Pisa (since 2009); and the Director of Molecular Biology and Cell Culture Laboratory of the Centre for Biological and Pathological Research in Geriatrics, University of Pisa (since 2009). Moreover, from 1998 to 2007, he was the Deputy Chief of the Endocrinology and Metabolism Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Pisa. Currently, he is the Director of the Geriatrics and Gerontology Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, University of Pisa. In addition, he is an Ordinary Member of the Italian Society of Endocrinology, Italian Thyroid Association (member of the group for coordination of scientific research protocols), European Thyroid Association, and Endocrine Society. His main scientific fields of interest include physiopathology of endocrine disorders, thyroid autoimmune disorders, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neuromuscular dysfunction in thyroid dysfunction, especially in the elderly, diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules, physiopathology, and clinic of thyroid cancer.
