Markus Reiser

Markus Reiser, born October 10, 1964 in Hamburg, studied Medicine at the Universities of Hamburg and Boston (Harvard). He finished his MD thesis working on the hepatic regulation of gluconeogenesis at the institute of physiologic chemistry, University of Hamburg in 1992. After 1.5 years of residency in the Dept. Endocrinology at Hannover Medical School he took a position at the University of Hamburg in 1993 but followed his mentor Wolff Schmiegel, MD PhD from Hamburg to the University of Bochum shortly thereafter. He spent a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida, USA in the research group of Johnson Lau, MD PhD working on hepatitis C. After returning to Bochum, Germany he finished his clinical training in the Dept. Medicine, University of Bochum. He was an attending physician in the Dept. Medicine and Gastroenterology-Hepatology from 2000 until 2006. As of January 2007 he is Chief of the Dept. of Medicine, Paracelsus-Hospital Marl. Dr. Reiser is a board certified internist, gastroenterologist and infectious disease specialist. He also passed the United States Medical Examination (USMLE).
