Namasivayam Chinnaiya

Namasivayam Chinnaiya received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in analytical chemistry from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. His main research interests are physical-chemical treatment processes, surface chemistry and thermodynamics, modeling of wastewater and water treatment processes, photocatalysis, and waste land reclamation. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate (1982–1984) at the University of Victoria, Canada. He has been honored as Visiting Scientist at the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada (1985–1992); International Visitor on Environment by USIA, Washington, DC, USA (1996); Invitation Fellow by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) at the University of Tokyo, Japan (1999); Visiting Scientist by DAAD and Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and DFG (Germany) at the Karlsruhe Research Centre, Karlsruhe, Germany (2001-2002); Visiting Professor at four universities in Taiwan (2005); Visiting Scientist at Wageningen University, The Netherlands (2006-2007); and Visiting Professor at Teesside University, UK (2010). He has authored over 100 publications including journal articles with more than 4000 citations. Professor Chinnaiya is a Fellow of IUPAC, USA, since 2002, and Institution of Chemists, India, since 1995. He has been honored as a Member of the International Expert Panel nominated by the Academy of Finland (2007) to evaluate the scientific status of water research in Finland for the period 2002–2006.
