Ravi S. Sharma has been an Associate Professor of knowledge management at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, since January 2004. He was also Founding Director (India Strategy), reporting to the President, for a two-year term. Sharma spent the previous 10 years in industry as Asean Communications Industry Principal at IBM Global Services and as Director of the Multimedia Competency Centre of Deutsche Telekom Asia. Sharma’s teaching, consulting, and research interests are in multimedia applications, services, and strategies. His work has appeared in leading journals, conferences, trade publications, and the broadcast media. He also coauthored a graduate-level text on KM tools and techniques and a research collection of papers on the IDM marketplace. As for consulting engagements, Sharma has served as a Telco Industry Advisor to Frost & Sullivan’s Technology Practice in Asia-Pacific, a Vice-President of Homeportal Inc. presence in Asia, and as a Business Advisor to several technology start-ups. He has also provided strategic technical advice to the respective regulators for Singapore’s Digital TV and Broadband Multimedia implementation efforts, Malaysia’s Multimedia Super-Corridor, ITU’s WG on telecommunications tariffs, and Singapore’s Expert Group on Interactive Digital Media. Sharma received his Ph.D. degree in engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, and is a Chartered Engineer (UK) and a Fellow of the IET. He has sat on the editorial boards of IEEE Communications Surveys, the Journal of Knowledge, Technology and Society, Innovation, and the International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting.
