Peter Riis Hansen

Peter Riis Hansen works as a Consultant Cardiologist and Senior Researcher at the Department of Cardiology, Gentofte University Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark, and is an Associate Professor at Copenhagen University. His academic degrees include an M.D. degree (1983), Ph.D. degree (1994; “Neutrophils in myocardial ischemia and reperfusion”), and D.M.S degree (2000; “Experimental studies of inflammatory mediators in ischemic heart disease”), all from Copenhagen University. Since 2010, he has been a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Dr. Hansen is the author/coauthor of 200 papers, 11 book chapters, and 2 books. His present research has centered on inflammatory mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases, cardiovascular pharmacoepidemiology (with special interest in the association between cardiovascular disorders and chronic inflammatory diseases including psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease), pharmacogenomics, percutaneous coronary intervention, cardiovascular changes in overweight and inactive children, and cardiovascular adaptations to exercise.
