Adelino Leite Moreira obtained his M.D. degree in 1989 and his Ph.D. degree in 1997 at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, Porto, Portugal, where he became a Professor of physiology. In 2003, he completed his training as a cardiothoracic surgeon in Porto. Currently, he works as a Full Professor of physiology, pathophysiology and cardiothoracic surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, being also the Head of the Department of Physiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery of the same institution. Along with his academic duties, he is also a Staff Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Hospital Sao Joao, Porto.To date, Moreira published 170 full papers and 503 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. He is also the supervisor of 7 postdocs, 26 Ph.D. students (11 finished), and 23 M.S. students (all finished). He has been awarded with over 100 scientific prizes in the last fifteen years. Currently, he is also the President of the Council of Representatives and Member of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. Additionally, he is the Director of two postgraduate courses: Master Course in cardiovascular pathophysiology and the Ph.D. program in ?cardiovascular sciences.?He was the Supplements Editor of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology (2001–2006), and is now part of the Editorial Board of the following publications: Brazilian Archives of Cardiology, Portuguese Journal of Cardiology, International Journal for Computation Vision and Biomechanics, and Journal of Geriatric Cardiology and Archives of Exercise in Health and Disease. His main research interests include the mechanisms underlying myocardial hypertrophy and progression to heart failure, as well as the pathophysiology of diastolic dysfunction, using a bench-to-bedside approach and back.
