Fernando L. Dias

Fernando Luiz Dias is currently the Chief of the Head and Neck Surgery Department of the Brazilian National Cancer Institute and Full Professor of Head and Neck Oncology at the Postgraduate School of Medicine of the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. Dias graduated from Rio de Janeiro Federal University in 1980 and underwent residency in general surgery at the Brazilian National Institute of Public Health (March 1980–February 1983), formal training in thoracic surgery at the Brazilian Naval Hospital—Rio de Janeiro (March 1983–February 1984), and fellowship in oncological surgery at the Brazilian National Cancer Institute (March 1984–February 1987). He obtained his M.S. degree in science—general surgery in 1995 at Rio de Janeiro Federal University and his Ph.D. degree in medicine—head and neck surgery in 1999 at São Paulo University. Dias has published in the area of head and neck oncology. His main research interests are in the identification of prognostic factors and predictors of therapeutic response and treatment of squamous carcinoma of the upper aerodigestive tract.
