Venu Lagishetty

University of California, Los Angeles, USA

Venu Lagishetty received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, India, in 2006. His graduate thesis included extensive studies on the effects of maternal dietary restriction with respect to endocrine regulation in the offspring. He then moved to UCLA for his post-doctoral studies, to study impacts of vitamin D status on human physiology and common clinical problems. His current work involves exploring the effects of vitamin D-insufficiency on immune function in various mouse models and the consequences of this with respect to inflammatory bowel disease. His recent achievements show that vitamin D-deficiency in mice disregulates local antibacterial responses which may predispose them to inflammatory bowel disease.
