Jens Søndergaard was born in 1963. He received his M.D. degree from Odense University, Odense, Denmark, in 1990, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark, in 2002. He is specialized in general practice in 1997 and in clinical pharmacology in 2002. Currently, he works as a Professor and the Head of the Research Unit for General Practice, Institute for Health Service Research, University of Southern Denmark, since 2008. His research activities mainly focus on the organization of the healthcare system, in particular on delay of cancer diagnosis, cancer rehabilitation and palliative care, COPD, and pharmacoepidemiology. Moreover, Søndergaard authored or coauthored more than 100 publications in peer reviewed indexed journals, more than 70 other publications on topics relevant to general practice, more than 120 oral presentations, and more than 80 posters at scientific conferences. He has been a supervisor for 18 Ph.D. degree students and is currently a supervisor for 16 Ph.D. degree students. In addition, he has been peer reviewer for a number of Scientific Journals, advisory boards, and funds and a member of several national and international boards.
