Eino J. Honkala works as a Professor of Dental Public Health and the Vice Dean for Research and Students Affairs, Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University. He has served as a President of the European Association for Dental Public Health. He is a Member of the Research Funding Committee of the Kuwait University and a Member of the Ethical Committee of the Dasman Institute. He graduated from University of Helsinki, Finland, in 1974, received his specialist degree in dental public health from the National Board of Health, in 1980, the Ph.D. degree from University of Kuopio in 1984, the British specialist degree in DPH from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1986 and M.S. degree in DPH from the London Hospital Medical College, in 1985. He was appointed as a Docent of Preventive Dentistry by the University of Kuopio in 1985 and as a Docent of Cariology by the University of Helsinki, in 1993. He received his special competence in International Health Care from the Finnish Dental Association in 1999. He has worked as an Academician since 1979 and as a Professor at the Universities of Kuopio, Jyväskylä, Helsinki and Turku, Finland, and at the Universities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Minnesota, USA, Tromsø, Norway, and in Kuwait. He has worked as a Director of the Kuopio and Helsinki International Institutes of Oral Health. He has published over 100 original scientific articles, 20 reviews and about 200 conference abstracts and worked as an editor of several publications. He has supervised 8 Ph.D. students, been as a Pre-examiner or opponent in 16 Ph.D. dissertations, and served as a Reviewer of 4 Docent and 2 Professor competencies. He has also been serving as the Chairman or as a Secretary of the organizing and scientific committees of several international conferences. He is an Honorary Member of the Helsinki Dental Students’ Association and of the Finnish Dental Society. He has received a state honor, Knight, Fist Class, of the Order of the White Rose of Finland.
