Hann-Chorng Kuo

Hann-Chorng Kuo graduated from National Taiwan University (NTUH) in 1979. He received his residency training for four years after serving in the army. He was promoted to a Visiting Staff in NTUH and Lecture of the National Taiwan University in 1985. Then he went to Hofuf, Saudi Arabia and served at Hofuf General Hospital for one year as a diplomatic supportive doctor. In 1988, Dr, Kuo moved to Tzu Chi General Hospital, Hualien, Taiwan and has served as the Chief of the Department of Urology in Tzu Chi General Hospital (TCGH) till now. During these 20 years, he devoted himself into clinical and research works in neurourology and urodynamics. He developed a videourodynamic laboratory and a wet lab for animal researches in TCGH. Through detailed clinical observations and numerous videourodynamic studies, Hann-Chorng has published more than 170 peer-reviewed papers and wrote more than 10 monographs in the field of general urology, urodynamics, bladder outlet obstruction, neurogenic bladder, stress urinary incontinence, and overactive bladder. Hann-Chorng had gained his Professor title in Tzu Chi University School of Medicine in 2001 and was elected as the President of the Taiwanese Continence Society (TCS) in 2006. Currently, he is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Tzu Chi Medical Journal and Incontinence & Pelvic Floor Dysfunction. The interests of Hann-Chorng are in many aspects. Recently, he has research interests focused on the biomarkers for overactive bladder such as nerve growth factor and bladder wall thickness, and clinical application of botulinum toxin in lower urinary tract dysfunction. He also devoted a lot of time in the continence promotion and educational program of incontinence and voiding dysfunction in TCS.
