Marcelo A. Savi

Center for Nonlinear Mechanics COPPE – Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Marcelo A. Savi received his Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering in 1994. Nowadays, he serves as a Professor at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he develops research and teaching activities. He authors several scientific papers published in international journals, books, and proceedings. He has participated in consulting activities in different aspects of mechanical engineering. Research interests are related to nonlinear phenomena and chaos where smart material and structures, chaos in mechanical and biomechanical systems, and control and time series analysis should be highlighted. Among some of the specific research subjects, one could mention the following: nonlinear dynamics of shape memory alloy systems, chaos control in mechanical and biomechanical systems, shape memory alloys applied in oil industry, and structural health monitoring applied in aeronautical industry. These researches are sponsored by the Brazilian Research Council (CNPq), Research Council of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ), Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), National Institute of Science and Technology - Smart Structures in Engineering (INCT-EIE) that uses resources from the CNPq, and the Research Council of Minas Gerais (FAPEMIG). Some of these researches are also involving some Brazilian companies as Petrobras and Embraer.
