After Shigeki Matsuya was graduated from the Kyushu Institute of Technology in 1974, he received his M.S. degree from Kyushu University. His major was applied chemistry and engaged in synthesis of oxide powder by vapor phase reaction. He had a position of Research Associate in Faculty of Dentistry, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, in 1976, and then was promoted to an Associate Professor in 1987. He moved to Fukuoka Dental College as Professor in 2006. His research interest has been the properties of dental inorganic materials since he joined the Faculty of Dentistry in Kyushu University in 1976. Recently, however, he spend most of his time to do research on bone substitutes based on carbonate apatite and bioactive glasses.
