Helaine Alessio is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Miami University, Oxford, OH, USA. She uses animal and human models to investigate benefits and risks of exercise and sedentary lifestyles. She has studied exercise-induced oxidative stress, gene expression, proteomics, the association between hearing and fitness, and ecological perspectives in health enhancement. Her research has been supported by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Institute on Aging.
