Ahmed Y. Gamal

Ahmed Y. Gamal received a Ph.D. degree in periodontology in 1988. He works as Professor and Chair at the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. He completed his clinical studies and Ph.D. degree at the same university at the Department of Periodontology. He moved to USA in 1996 as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA, USA. Upon completing his postdoctoral studies, he was appointed as a Professor of periodontology at Al-Azhar University. Gamal has mentored more than 40 Ph.D. and M.S. degrees theses and directed and taught several graduate and postgraduate clinical courses. He is a Member of the Editorial Board of the International Academy of Periodontology, a Reviewer of the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of the International Academy of Periodontology, and a Member of the Editorial Board of the Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Allergy Agents in Medicinal Chemistry Journal. He has been a recipient of many research awards. His research focuses primarily on periodontal regenerative surgeries, tissue engineering in periodontal regeneration, periosteal graft applications, and peri-implantitis treatment options. Gamal has published more than 50 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and has presented more than 65 oral talks and posters in international dental congresses.
