Eldon D. Lehmann is medically qualified and was also awarded a Ph.D. degree from the Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, University of London, UK. He is an Interventional and Diagnostic Radiologist, who worked for IBM before entering medicine. He has long-standing interests in the application of information technology in medical care, particularly the use of computers in diabetes care. He is the lead author/codeveloper of the AIDA interactive educational simulator of glucose-insulin interaction in diabetes and a web-based version of AIDA. Dr. Lehmann has also been a Guest Editor of a two-part, 240-page special issue of the Journal of Medical Informatics and Journal of the European Federation of Medical Informatics (journal has been renamed Medical Informatics and the Internet in Medicine), devoted to papers on the application of information technology in diabetes care. He has been an Invited Founding Editorial Board Member of two US/international diabetes journals: Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics (1999–2008) and Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology (2007-2008). His current diabetes computing research projects focus on the modeling of rapidly acting (humalog/lispro) and very long-acting (lantus/glargine) insulin analogues and the incorporation of these insulin analogues into the freeware AIDA diabetes simulator and the assessment/evaluation of such diabetes simulation tools via tutorials/workshops and randomized controlled trials. Dr. Lehmann has over 127 publications on MEDLINE and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.
