Qaisar Mahmood received the Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering from the Department of Environmental Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 2007. Dr. Mahmood was a Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA, during 2012-2013 and was promoted to be an Associate Professor in August 2011. In November 2008, he joined the Department of Environmental Sciences as an Assistant Professor at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Abbottabad, Pakistan. He was, furthermore, associated with the Federal Ministry of Education during 1996–2008. Professor Mahmood is the author of more than 200 refereed publications. His research interests include bioremediation, denitrification, anaerobic wastewater treatment, and biofuels. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the BioMed Research International. In addition, he serves as a Reviewer of more than 20 refereed research journals. Dr. Mahmood received the 4th Highest Civil Award of Pakistan Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Medal of Excellence) for his national services in the field of environmental sciences discipline and the Best University Teacher Award at the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in 2009 and won the Merit Scholarship for the Ph.D. studies in China. Recently, Dr. Mahmood has been awarded with the Gold Medal by the Pakistan Academy of Sciences for his outstanding research work in earth and environmental sciences for the year 2016.
