Paul Ellis Marik

Paul E. Marik received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He did his internship at the Hillbrow Hospital and then completed his medical residency at the Johannesburg Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa. He was an Attending at the Baragwanath Hospital, in Soweto, South Africa. During this time, he obtained an MMed degree, B.S. degree in pharmacology, and Diploma in anesthesia as well as a Diploma in tropical medicine and hygiene. Dr. Marik did a Critical Care Fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada, during which time he was admitted as a Fellow to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon of Canada. Dr. Marik is currently a Professor of medicine and the Chief of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va, USA. Dr. Marik has written over 250 peer-reviewed journal articles and 50 book chapters and authored three critical care handbooks. He has presented over 200 lectures at national and international meetings and invited grand rounds. His research interests include sepsis, nutrition, and adrenal function during critical illness.
