Wai T. Wong

Wai T. Wong is an Ophthalmologist, Medical Retinal Specialist, and Vision Scientist who conducts basic, translational, and clinical research at the National Eye Institute, NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA. He received the S.B. degrees in chemical engineering and biology from MIT and the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees in medicine and neurobiology from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, USA, and completed postdoctoral, residency, and fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA, and the NIH. Since 2007, he has been the Chief of the Unit on Neuron-Glia Interactions in Retinal Disease (UNGIRD) at the NEI. His research interests involve the role of microglia in retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusions. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Member of the Macula Society.
