Rainer W. Bussmann


Rainer W. Bussmann holds the Ph.D. degree from the University of Bayreuth, Bayreuth, Germany, and the M.S. degree from the University of Tübingen, Tübingen, Germany. Bussmann is an Ethnobotanist, Vegetation Ecologist, and Conservationist. Before coming to the WLBC, he held academic positions as a Research Fellow in geography and the environment at UT Austin, Austin, TX, USA, as an Associate Professor and Scientific Director of Harold Lyon Arboretum at the University of Hawaii, Hilo, HI, USA, and as an Assistant Professor at the University of Bayreuth, Bayreuth, Germany. Currently, he focuses his efforts on ethnobotanical research and the preservation of the ecological diversity and cultural heritage in the threatened regions of South America, East Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia.
