Shuguang Liu serves as a Research Ecologist at the U.S. Geological Survey Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center, located at Sioux Falls, SD, USA. He also holds adjunct professorship at the Geographic Information Science Center of Excellence in South Dakota State University, College for Climate Change and Earth Science in Beijing Normal University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He specializes in development and applications of complex modeling and decision-support systems to simulate human-land-atmosphere interactions and environmental consequences at the site to global scales. His research interests span widely from ecosystem ecology, ecosystem modeling, biogeochemical cycling, hydrology, ecological impacts of land use and climate change at various spatial and temporal scales, ecological informatics, data-model fusion, and ecosystems services. He received his degree in forestry with an emphasis on watershed management and hydrology from the University of Florida. He was an Adviser in the Research Associateship program of the U.S. National Research Council from 2003 to 2008. He is currently on the Editorial Board of the journal Tropical and Subtropical Botany and on the science team of the NASA Land Cover and Land Use Change program and has served as a Reviewer for many international journals and granting agencies.
