Hiroshi Nakanishi

H. Nakanishi completed his Ph.D. degree in pharmacology, at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan, and he completed his postdoctoral training at the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, University of Tennessee, Memphis, Tenn, USA. He is currently working as a Professor at the Department of Aging Science and Pharmacology, Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University, Japan. Nakanishi became an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, in 1999, and a Professor at the Laboratory of Oral Aging Science, Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University, in 2000. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University, from 2011 to 2013. His research focuses on the physiological and pathological functions of microglia in the central nervous system. Nakanishi’s research interests include the following: roles of microglia in the synaptic plasticity and synaptic reorganization, roles of microglia in brain aging, roles of microglia in the chronic pain, and roles of microglia in neuropsychiatric disorders including autism.
