Abebaw Mengistu Yohannes

Abebaw Mengistu Yohannes received his Ph.D. degree in geriatric medicine from the University of Manchester, UK (2002) and M.S. degree in geriatric medicine from the University of Manchester, UK (1997), respectively. He is currently Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Gerontology in the department of physical therapy, in the school of Behavioral and Applied Sciences at Azusa Pacific University. Dr Yohannes is a Fellow of College of Chest Physicians. He has authored or coauthored over 90 peer-reviewed research articles and ten book chapters and presented his work over 100 papers at national and international conferences. Dr Yohannes is one of the editors of the book entitled Depression and Anxiety in Patients with Chronic Respiratory Diseases. He is an Associate Editor of the BMC Geriatrics and Health and Quality of Life Outcomes. He is also editorial board member for the Chest journal. Dr. Yohannes designed and validated the Manchester Respiratory Activities of Daily Living Scale and the Anxiety Inventory for Respiratory Disease. His research interests include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in old age (mood disorders, anxiety, and depression), cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, models of geriatric care, for example, intermediate care, nursing homes, late life depression, and religion.
