Michiho Ito works as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University. She graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University, in 1992, and she was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the same university in 1996. She obtained the Ph.D. degree from Kyoto University in 1999. She studied abroad as a Visiting Researcher in Professor R. Croteau’s Laboratory, Institute of Biological Chemistry, Washington State University (2002-2003). She was appointed as an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyoto University, in 2003. The areas of her specialties are pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany. She has authored more than 90 scientific publications since 1993, and many of them are studies on biosynthesis of essential oil compounds in medicinal plants, taxonomy and chemotaxonomy of Perilla and Aquilaria, pharmacology of essential oil using inhalation system, and field surveys of agarwood, cinnamon, perilla, and folk medicines. She has a license as a Pharmacist and was appointed as one of cochairs of Special Interest Group of Natural Products of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in 2010. She won the Encouragement of Promising Young Scientist in Pharmacognosy Award from the Japanese Society of Pharmacognosy in 2006.
