Christoph E. Broelsch

Christoph E. Broelsch was born in 1944 and raised in Bremen/Germany. He completed his high school graduation in 1963 in Berlin Gymnasium Steglitz. He completed his medical education at Universities of Cologne, Erlangen, and Düsseldorf. His graduation and promotion was in 1969 (Dr. Med. degree). He served as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Pathology (1970-1972). He received his surgical training at Universities of Düsseldorf and Medical School Hannover (MHH) from 1974 to 1979. He served as a Research Fellow (Scholarship DFG) at University of California at San Diego, Calif, USA from 1972 to 1973. He served as an Assistant Professor (Privatdozent) from 1979 to 1983 and as an Associate Professor in 1883 at Universities of Düsseldorf and Medical School Hannover (MHH). He served as a Tenured Professor of surgery and Chief of the Section of Hepatobiliary Surgery and Transplantation at the University of Chicago, Ill, USA from 1884 to 1991. In addition, he served as a Professor and Chairman of Klinik für Allgemein-, Viszeral- und Transplantationschirurgie, University of Hamburg from 1991 to 1998 and University Hospital Essen from 1998 to 2009. He published more than 300 works in hepatobiliary, general, and transplantation surgery. His honors include the following: Honorary MD Universities of Leuven (Belgium), Aahus (Denmark), Krasnodar(Russia), Pisa (Italy), Constanza (Romania), Sofia (Bulgaria), Ber Seba (Israel), Shanghai (China), and Commander of the Order of Merit (Germany)
