Robertt A. Valente

University of Aveiro, Portugal

Robertt A. F. Valente ( is an Assistant Professor (Department of Mechanical Engineering) at University of Aveiro, Portugal. Since 1997, he has been developing works in the field of numerical simulation and mathematical models applied to solid and applied mechanics, particularly in the development of new finite element formulations and techniques, constitutive modelling for aluminium and steel alloys, plastic forming behaviour, modelling of composite structures, structural stability characterization, optimization techniques and, more recently, isogeometric analysis. The algorithms and computer models he has developed are commonly used in industrial applications in the automotive, aerospace and aeronautic fields. Some of the formulations that Prof. Robertt Valente developed after his PhD (University of Porto, Portugal, 2004) are nowadays integrated in commercial finite element software (Abaqus, LS-Dyna, MSC Marc), by means of user subroutines or integrated moduli. Prof. Robertt Valente is author of more than 100 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings, and he is also the co-author of the only book on Finite Element Method published in Portuguese language. Prof. Robertt Valente was recently awarded with the Young Researcher Prize (2010) by the Portuguese Association on Theoretical, Applied and Computational Mechanics, for his outstanding contributions to the research and teaching in those areas of knowledge.
