Thorvardur R. Halfdanarson

Thorvardur R. Halfdanarson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1969. He obtained his M.D. degree from the University of Iceland in 1995 followed by residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Reykjavik Hospital in Iceland. From 2000 to 2003, he served as an internal medicine resident at the University of Iowa. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Mayo Clinic in 2007, and since then, he has been working as an Assistant Professor of internal medicine at the University of Iowa and as a Consultant Hematologist and Oncologist at the Iowa City Veterans Administration Medical Center in addition to the position of Associate Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Director. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology and specializes in the management of gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine malignancies but also maintains a large hematology practice at the Veterans Medical Center. His research activities include the management, epidemiology, and risk factors of gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine cancers.
