Omar S. Harb

Omar S. Harb is the Director of Scientific Outreach and Education for the Eukaryotic Pathogens Database Resources (EuPathDB: based at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, USA. Dr. Harb obtained a B.A. degree in biology from Earlham College, Richmond, IN, USA, and a Ph.D. degree in microbiology and immunology from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, USA. His graduate work focused on understanding mechanisms of bacterial virulence in the human and environmental pathogen Legionella pneumophila. After receiving his Ph.D. degree, Dr. Harb spent several years in the Laboratory of Dr. David Roos investigating various aspects of the cell biology of the apicomplexan parasites Toxoplasma gondii and Plasmodium falciparum. Currently, Dr. Harb work has centered around developing and implementing a broad-based community outreach program for EuPathDB, which focuses on enhancing the scientific community’s involvement and participation in accessing and effectively utilizing the genomic resources offered by EuPathDB.
