Ashkan Vaziri received his Ph.D. degree in 2004 from the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, the Northeastern University, Boston, Mass, USA. After graduation, he joined the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University, Boston, Mass, USA, first as a Postdoctoral Fellow and, then, as a Research Associate under the mentorship of Professor John W. Hutchinson. Dr. Vaziri has also served as a Lecturer in engineering at Harvard University for four years, and a Research Affiliate with the Biological Engineering Division at MIT. He currently works as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the High–Performance Materials and Structures Laboratory at Northeastern University. Dr. Vaziri has made scientific contribution in mechanics of materials, structural mechanics, impact engineering, and biomechanics. His research has yielded 72 journal articles and 150 conference abstracts with more than 1000 citations and h-index=17 (as of October 2012). His work has been featured on the cover of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Soft Matter, and Journal of Orthopaedic Research. He has also given more than 25 invited presentations and keynote talks in different industrial and academic organizations and conferences in the last five years. Dr. Vaziri was the recipient of 2010 AFOSR YIP and 2012 NSF CAREER awards. He has also received multiple grants from national and international funding agencies.
