Georgios Sirakoulis

Georgios Sirakoulis received his Diploma degree in electrical and computer engineering (1996) from the DUTH, Greece. For his Diploma thesis he received a prize of distinction from the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE). In 2001, he received his Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the DUTH, and in 2002, he joined the same department as a Nontenured Faculty Member, where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor with tenure. He is a Member of the IEEE, Computer, IET, EGU, ISCB, and TEE. He has published more than 40 papers in international journals, all included in the Science Citation Index, and more than 65 papers in international conference proceedings. He is coauthor of two invited book chapters and coauthor of two books. Dr. Sirakoulis acts as referee at several scientific journals (45 ISI journals) and at many more conference proceedings (55 conferences). Furthermore, he was member of several conference organizing and scientific committees and chairman in many conference sessions. Recently, he served as general Cochair of the 10th edition of the Cellular Automata for Research and Industry conference (ACRI2012) as well as Cochair of the Crowds and Cellular Automata workshop. Moreover, he has served as a Member at the EU IDEAS programme and EUROPRACTICE Representative for DUTH. He has participated as a Principal Investigator in more than 18 scientific programmes and projects funded from the Greek Government and Industry as well as the European Commission, such as EU AMDREL project IST-2001-34379 and EU VIEWFINDER project INFSO-IST-045541. Finally, Dr. Sirakoulis works as an Associate Editor in Recent Patents in Engineering and in Conference Papers in Computer Science. His current research emphasis is on applied electronic systems design, cellular automata theory and applications, memristors, complex systems, crowd dynamics, motion and analysis, swarm intelligence, and bioelectronics and molecular electronics.
