Jun Shan received his B.S. degree in organic chemistry from Anhui University, and the M.S. degree in polymer chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China. He completed his Ph.D. degree in May 2006 under the supervision of Professor Heikki Tenhu at the Lab of Polymer Chemistry, University of Helsinki, Finland. His doctoral thesis involved polymer protected gold nanoparticles with respect to synthesis, characterization, and thermal response of polymers as well as investigation of optical properties of gold nanoparticle monolayers at interface. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the same lab with interests in the thermoresponsive properties of polymer brushes and in metal nanoparticle synthesis (Ag and Cu) for different applications such as ultra-thin antimicrobial films and printing electronics. Currently, he is a Research Scientist at Oy Keskuslaboratorio-Centrallaboratorium Ab (KCL), Finland, in the area of biomaterials and nanocomposites.
