Irene Lorand-Metze graduated in medicine from the State University of Campinas, Brazil, in 1968. She specializes in hematology. She undertook a postgraduation course in cell biology and immunology. Her postdoctoral studies were in hemopathology at the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel, Germany. She works as a Full Professor of hematology at the State University of Campinas since 1996 and as an Associated Chief at the Hematology and Hemotherapy Center of the State University of Campinas since 2006. She is a Member of the board of the postgraduate course of Internal Medicine, State University of Campinas since 2011. Has a research grant from CNPq (National Research Council) since 1995. Her research fields include leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, myelodysplasia, and flow cytometry.
