Kathleen Branigan Bamford

Kathleen Branigan Bamford, holder of the M.B., B.Ch. B.A.O., M.D., and F.R.C.Path. degrees, is currently Consultant Medical Microbiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Visiting Professor in the Department Infectious Diseases and Immunity, Imperial College London, London, UK. Bamford studied medicine qualifying from Queen's Belfast in 1982 then specialized in medical microbiology and virology. She worked in academic and health service positions in Belfast and Imperial College London with a year in UTMB at Galveston Texas. She examines for the Royal College of Pathologists and is a Member of GTAC and ACRE with expertise in infectious diseases, gene and advanced therapies. Her research interests include the epidemiology and immunology of human infection, in particular Helicobacter pylori and mucosal infections. Other research areas include the molecular epidemiology of bacteria including S. aureus and C. difficile and the management of these and other human infections.
