Vitor Vasconcelos obtained a B.S. degree in 1986 and a Ph.D. degree in 1995 in biology from the Faculty of Sciences, Porto University (FCUP), Porto, Portugal. Since 2008, Vasconcelos has worked as a Professor at the Biology Department in FCUP. He serves as a Director of the Laboratory of Ecotoxicology and Blue Biotechnology at CIIMAR. He supervised 22 Ph.D. students and 45 M.S. students. His main areas of expertise are environmental toxicology, eutrophication, natural toxins, ecotoxicology, and marine biotechnology. Vasconcelos published 196 works, with 164 papers being on international peer-reviewed journals. He organized or participated as a member of the scientific committee in 19 conferences. He reviewed 300 scientific papers of SCI journals, and he is also a member of the 37 Ph.D. and 66 M.S. evaluation committees. He is currently coordinating 5 research projects. Vasconcelos is the Director of the M.S. course on environmental contamination and toxicology at FCUP and is a Member of the scientific committee of the Ph.D. courses on biology, marine, and environmental sciences at the same university, as well as the courses on biology at Aveiro University, Aveiro, Portugal.
