Alex B. Burgin

Alex B. Burgin received his Ph.D. degree in genetics at Indiana University, Ind, USA, in 1990, and then completed his postdoctoral studies at the National Institutes of Health focusing on bioorganic chemistry and enzyme mechanism. He joined Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals in 1994 as a Senior Scientist and became Group Leader in 1995. In 1998, he became an Assistant Professor at the Biology Department at San Diego State University where he directed an active research lab studying the mechanism of DNA recombinases, topoisomerases, and phosphodiesterases. In 2001, Alex joined deCODE Biostructures as the Director of Molecular Biology and oversaw gene synthesis, cloning, bacterial fermentation, and assay development. In 2006, he became Chief Operating Officer of Emerald BioStructures and oversaw all gene to crystal projects. Alex is currently CSO at EmeraldBio.
