Luc Zimmer

Luc Zimmer currently works as a Professor of neuropharmacology in the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lyon, Lyon, France, and serves as the Director of the CERMEP-Imaging Platform (Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Hospices Civils de Lyon, INSERM, CNRS, Lyon, France). From 1986 to 1992, he received a pharmacist education at the University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France, and, from 1993 to 1999, he completed his Internship and Residency in radiopharmacy and radiopharmacology in the Nuclear Medicine Department, University Hospital of Tours, Tours, France, and at the National Institute for Nuclear Sciences and Technology (INSTN), Saclay, France. He received his Pharm.D. degree in radiopharmacology and his Ph.D. degree in neuroscience from the University of Tours, Tours, France. He joined the Hospital University of Lyon in 1999 as a Nuclear Pharmacist and the CERMEP-Imaging Platform as a Pharmacologist. After obtaining the authorization to direct research, he took in 2002 a position of Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lyon, Lyon, France. In 2005, he was promoted as a full-time Professor of pharmacology and founded the Laboratory of Neuropharmacology at the University of Lyon and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Zimmer is currently the Head of the Laboratory of Radiopharmaceutical and Neurochemical Biomarkers (BIORAN) belonging to Lyon Neuroscience Research Center. He is working in the area of brain molecular imaging, particularly in the field of the serotonin neurotransmission. His research interests include the development of novel PET radiopharmaceuticals for exploration of new neuropharmacological concepts (e.g., biased agonism) and for PET/MR imaging in mood disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
