Tania Weber Furlanetto is a Professor of the Post-Graduation Program of Medicine, Medical Sciences, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. She received her M.D. degree from the same institution, her Ph.D. degree from the Paulista School of Medicine, São Paulo, SP, Brazil, and her postdoctoral training at the Division for Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Molecular Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill, USA. Her major research contribution to the thyroid field was the description of estrogen effects on thyroid cells, receiving for that the Knoll Scientific Award for Thyroid Research of the Endocrine Society, USA. She has a great experience in clinical thyroidology, is a Member of Committees for Research Funding in Brazil, and is a Referee for several international scientific periodicals and an Editor of ISRN Endocrinology.
